Frequently asked questions

When you click a link, your browser sends a Referer header to the destination site revealing where you came from. This can expose your traffic sources, affiliate setups, or private pages. TraceNull strips this header completely so the destination never knows your origin.
Bitly and TinyURL are URL shorteners that track your visitors, pass referrer information to destination sites, and build behavioral profiles. TraceNull takes the opposite approach: it strips the referrer header completely, stores no personal visitor data, and never tracks individual users. On top of that, TraceNull offers the same practical tools — short links, custom domains, QR codes, click analytics, and API access — all without compromising the privacy of your audience.
Yes — the Free plan lets you create short links with a custom expiry date and use the referrer-stripping redirect. No credit card required. The Pro plan (coming soon) adds click analytics, QR codes, and a custom domain. The Business plan (coming soon) adds UTM parameter injection, password-protected links, slug editing, up to 5 custom domains, and full API access.
Yes — Pro and Business users can generate a branded SVG QR code for any short link directly from their dashboard. The QR code can be downloaded and used in print, presentations, or anywhere else. It uses the same dark-themed style as TraceNull — or your custom domain URL if you have one set up.
Business users can add a password to any short link. When someone clicks the link, they see a password prompt before being forwarded to the destination. Only people with the correct password get through — useful for sharing links with a specific audience, internal resources, or early-access content.
Yes — Business users can connect up to 5 custom domains. Add your subdomain (e.g. links.yoursite.com) in the dashboard, set two DNS records (a CNAME and a TXT verification record), then click Verify. TraceNull automatically issues a TLS certificate and all new links will use your domain. Read the setup guide →
Yes — Business users get a personal API key to create and manage short links programmatically. Just send a POST /api/shorten request with an X-Api-Key header. This lets you integrate TraceNull into your own tools, scripts, or workflows without any manual steps in the dashboard. Read the full API reference →
Paste any URL into the generator and TraceNull creates a short link (e.g. tracenull.cc/ab3x). When someone clicks it, they pass through a branded countdown page and are forwarded — without any referrer information reaching the destination.
Absolutely. TraceNull automatically injects your Amazon affiliate tag into Amazon links, and the referrer-stripping protects your traffic sources from being visible to competitors or merchants. It's the ideal tool for affiliate marketers.
Yes. TraceNull does not track individual visitors, stores no personal data from redirects, and uses a Referrer-Policy: no-referrer header on all responses. We use Google AdSense for advertising — cookie consent is required before any personalized ads are shown.
Yes, to prevent abuse. Anonymous and free users can create 1 short link per minute, 20 per hour, and 50 per 12 hours. These limits apply per IP address and help keep the service fast and reliable for everyone.
Almost entirely. If you decline cookies, no tracking or personalized advertising cookies are set. For anonymous visitors (not logged in), no session cookie is created at all. Ads may still be displayed, but only in a non-personalized, cookieless mode. Logged-in users require one technically necessary session cookie to maintain their login — this is unavoidable and not used for tracking. Your cookie preference is remembered for 7 days if declined, and 12 months if accepted.
